A pioneering cultural project
The Louvre Abu Dhabi project was launched in 2007, the result of a partnership between France and the United Arab Emirates to develop a new type of cultural institution. The resulting meeting resulted in a museum rooted in universal human values, the first of its kind in the region. The Louvre Abu Dhabi represents a unique opportunity to combine the cultural progress and openness reflected in the UAE’s vision with French expertise in the world of art and museums, with the aim of highlighting the essence of humanity.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi represents the dynamic nature of the contemporary Arab world while celebrating the region’s multicultural heritage. The museum works in partnership with Agence France-Muséums, a group of 17 leading French cultural institutions, to organize exhibitions and lend artworks.
