The College of Medicine at King Saud University is the first medical college in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, established in 1387 AH. In 1394 AH, the female section was opened, and in 1396 AH, King Abdulaziz University Hospital, formerly known as Prince Talal Hospital, joined the college. On 17 Rabi` al-Awwal 1402 AH, His Majesty King Khalid bin Abdulaziz – may God have mercy on him – inaugurated the college headquarters and King Khalid University Hospital in the university city of Diriyah. Since its establishment, the college has graduated more than 5,089 male and female doctors, in addition to 1,477 graduates from fellowship programs. The college achieved a global achievement by being ranked 79th among medical colleges worldwide according to the Times Higher Education rankings in 2009. In the academic year 1443/1444 AH, the number of male and female students enrolled in the undergraduate stage reached 1,868, and in postgraduate studies 987 male and female doctors distributed over 117 fellowship programs, 2 doctoral programs, 4 master’s programs, and 3 diploma programs. In the same year, the number of new admissions to the undergraduate stage reached 284 male and female students, while the number of bachelor’s graduates reached 273 male and female doctors. As for postgraduate graduates, the number reached 294 male and female doctors in various medical specialties. The college is proud of its graduates who have proven their competence in passing local and international fellowship exams with ease, and their success in training programs in America, Canada, Europe, and Australia. It is also proud that most of the health leaders in the Kingdom over the past decades were its graduates.
