Northern Border University enjoys a unique geographic location in the field of higher education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As the only university in the Northern Borders Region, the university bears the name of this precious region of the Kingdom. In developing its plans, it draws on the region’s rich values, culture, history, and location. Our strategic plan for the years 2020-2025 is in harmony with the region’s abundant natural resources, in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, and with the new university system, guided by the strategic priorities of the Emirate of the Northern Borders Region.

1402 AH: The establishment of the Intermediate College for Girls, which served as the nucleus of this current edifice.

1408 AH: The Intermediate College for Girls was transformed into a teachers’ college, coinciding with the awarding of its first bachelor’s degree.

1426 AH: Establishing a College of Science in Arar and a Community College in Rafha as branches of King Abdulaziz University.

1428 AH: During his historic visit to the Northern Borders Region, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz (may God have mercy on him), announced the establishment of  the Northern Borders University  by royal decree. The university merged the previously established Teachers College with the two branches of King Abdulaziz University in Arar and Rafha. The establishment of the Northern Borders University was immediately followed by the establishment of several new colleges, including the faculties of medicine, pharmacy, nursing, applied medical sciences, engineering, computer science, business administration, and a community college. These were all distributed around its main campus in Arar, alongside the university’s three branches in Rafha, Turaif, and Al-Uwaigilah. The fledgling university witnessed a period of rapid development, becoming a major hub for knowledge, social, and economic progress in the region.
