The university, affiliated with the Ministry of Education, was launched under its new name (Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University), carrying an academic and research legacy spanning four decades. Some of its colleges welcomed their first batch of students in 1395 AH (1975 AD), at the beginning of the university’s history.

The College of Medicine and Medical Sciences, and the College of Architecture and Planning played a pioneering role in the field of postgraduate studies at the level of the Kingdom and the Gulf countries. With the continued expansion of the number of colleges, and the integration of most colleges in the Eastern Province – Dammam, the university now has 21 colleges, distributed over the largest geographical area in the Kingdom, with more than 45,000 students.

Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University is determined to develop and modernize its curricula and courses, and to provide an academic environment conducive to the advancement of various fields of science and knowledge, and to conduct purposeful scientific studies and research related to environmental and societal problems.
