Overview
Established in 2008, the museum was the first project launched by Qatar Museums. Designed by world-renowned Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei, the design is inspired by traditional Islamic architectural lines. Rising from the water, the museum overlooks the Doha waterfront and showcases Qatar’s world-class collection of Islamic art, dating from the 7th century CE to the 20th century.
In late 2021, the museum launched an ambitious 10-month project to enhance its facilities and reconfigure and reconfigure its permanent collection galleries. The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) welcomed its visitors back to its new home on October 5, 2022.

The Museum’s Permanent Collection
The Museum’s permanent collection includes manuscripts, woodwork, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, coins, precious stones, and glass.
These objects span both religious and secular spheres and are drawn from a variety of sources, from the treasuries of princes to the homes of ordinary people. These objects have been collected from three continents and include countries as diverse as India, Spain, and the Middle East.
